About Herons!

Herons! play a kind of literary alternative music that combines influences from punk, folk, classical, jazz and good old fashioned pop. Herons! have roots in New York, Dublin, and Gloucestershire, and combine electric guitars, bass & drums with saxophone, clarinet, classical guitar and intimate vocal harmonies. Their debut album So Long! was released independently in 2011. It is available for download on Bandcamp, iTunes, CD Baby, Spotify and Amazon. Herons! are currently recording their second album, Some Things Run Wild, due for release early next year.

Herons! are:

Aidan: clarinet, vox, occasional shruti box

James Dolman: drums, unyielding enthusiasm

Anna Jacob: saxophone, vox, emergency bass, inappropriate jokes

Tom Jacob: bass, guitars, vox, super pog pedal solos

Ben Kritikos: guitars, vox, songwriting, bassist’s underbite

Nice quotes about So Long!:

“[So Long!] is one of the most incredibly passionate, satirical, bad ass, politically righteous and tellingly honest albums I’ve ever heard. Its message breaks down barriers and [Ben Kritikos’] voice is unforgettable.”

– Wallis Bird

“So Long! by Herons! is the closest England has yet got to Neutral Milk Hotel’s classic album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. It’s big and brash and experimental one moment, but reclusive and contemplative the next.”

“Lyrically, So Long! is ace. Just ace. Angry, biting satire and breathless cynicism. And then, gentle and affecting. Ben’s lyrics are quick-witted but unpretentiously functional.”
